Walk With Ease:  A program from the Arthritis Foundation.
Begins: March, 5 2012
Monday & Wednesday: 10:00am 
$65per person for eight weeks.
 
Is getting in shape on your list of things to do for the new year?  Do you suffer from or are you at risk Arthritis? This walking program is designed for folks wanting to get more exercise and is appropriate for the young & old, male & female and the not-so-fit.  The only prerequisite is the ability to be on your feet for at least ten minutes without increased pain. Class size is limited, sign up now!
 

Successful Aging Support Group 

Monday's:  March 5th through April 23rd 

5:30 -6:30pm

Getting older is not always easy.  In addition to the physical changes there are emotional challenges faced by older adults.  Having a positive outlook and aging is a healthy way are hard to do without being able to express and process the stress that comes with aging. This will be a casual and informal meeting, open to anyone over 60, meant to provide a comfortable environment for expression and discussion, in addition to some basic education on aging successfully.
This group will be facilitated by a Licensed social worker from the Council on Aging as well as contributors on wellness, diet, a professional counselors

Cooking with Diabetes

This class will focus on adjusting recipes with diabetes in mind.  The class will experiment with sugar substitutes and whole grains.  Class size is limited so register early by calling Cathy at the Cooperative Extension: 255-5522.
 
When: Last Wednesdays, February through April, 2:30-5:00pm.  Register for one or all three.
 
Location: Lakeview Center, 401 Laurel Circle Drive, upper level

Qigong
(pronounced "chee-gong") is a practice of aligning breath, movement, and awareness for exercise, healing and meditation.  A great class for all fitness levels to help you with balance, mental clarity and focus.
 
Starts January 5th, 2012
Location: Lakeview upper level
Day:  Thursdays / 1:45 to 3:00pm
Cost:  $10 per class


Bhangra/Hip Hop Workout Class

Did you love the dance scene at the end of Slumdog Millionaire?  Learn this easy, fun dance style while working up a sweat!  All ages from teens to seniors welcome, new dancers encouraged.

Where: Carver Community Center, 101 Carver Ave
When:  Wednesday nights starting Feb 8, 6:30-7:30pm
Cost: $10 drop-in; only $5 for your first class and whenever you bring a new friend!
 
 
Freedom from SMOKING!  Quit for life
A freedom from smoking class from the American Lung Association.  Participants will learn how to overcome tobacco addiction, learn about medications that can help them quit, lifestyle changes that make quiting easier, how to prepare for quit day, manage stress, avoid weight gain and how to be smoke free for life!

Day:  Monday's / 6:00 to 7:00
Cost:  Free. 
This is an eight week program and must have six (6) people by Dedember 22 for this class to begin.

Survival Spanish, Basic Level 1:
Begins: THIS CLASS HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO BEGIN IN MARCH
Tuesday & Thursdays: 5:00-6:30
$60 for eight weeks
 
Have you wanted to learn some basic Spanish for travel or work?  Here is your chance to get to know the basics of the language including pronunciation.
The instructor is a native Spanish Speaker and has been teaching others for more then 15 years. Class is limited so register early. Held at the Carver Community Center.

 

Hoop Dancing for FUN and FITNESS: A Class for Kids!

Open to ages 7 and up.  Hoops are provided for use during class.

When: Tuesdays 3:15 - 4:15pm, Starting January 10, 2012
Where:  Carver Community Center, Cafeteria
Cost:  $40 per month (4 class package) or $12 per drop in

AARP Tax Prep Help
Rides offered:

If you need help completing your taxes and would like to a ride Lakeview Senior Center is offering transportation to the Black Mtn Library where volunteers where be presant to assist.

GED PREP CLASS

Class administered by AB Tech to help ready students to take their GED test

HIKING GROUP
 
BMRP leads a hiking group that meets every Tuesday. Hikes leave from the Lakeview Senior Center; all ages are welcome. Click here for the list of upcoming hikes.

 

GYMNASTICS

Gymnastics is one of the most fundamental and exciting of all physical activities. Basic gymnastics skills develop attributes that are perfect stepping stones for other sports and activities; flexibility, balance, strength, and agility. Classes last throughout the school year.
 
Location: Carver Community Center - Auditorium
Fee: $45/Month & $20 Annual Registration Fee  
 
Ages: Preschool 3-5 years
Days:  Monday, Wednesday
Time: 1:30-2:15  
 
Ages: K – 3rd Grades
Days: Monday, Wednesday
Time: 3:15 – 4:00

KARATE
Spencer Bolejack is the instructor for this class. He has a varied background in several disciplines of martial arts and extensive training in working with adults and children. The program focuses on physical skills, balance, flexibility, co-ordination, focus, respect, & teamwork.
Days: Tues. & Thurs.
Date: On-Going
Time: 3:00 - 4:00pm beginners, 4:15 - 5:15pm intermediate/advanced

Ages: All Ages
Cost: $50/month for both days OR
