Chicago Trip Minimize
 
  • The Lakeview Senior Center will be taking a motor-coach trip to Chicago.  Join us for seven days and six nights which includes a guided tour of Chicago to see such attractions as the “Historic and Fun-filled Navy Pier and the Old Chicago Water Tower; one of the few structures to survive the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.  The trip will, also take a cruise on Lake Michigan and enjoy the beautiful Chicago skyline.
May 6th – 12th

Every season we will be visiting a variety of exciting locations. We take one to two local Van Clan trips monthy, as well as an annual five-day trip. Everyone is welcome--please sign up early because trips often fill up! Sign up by calling Renee at 669-8610.

Dynamite Coffee Roasters and Highland Brewing Company,
Black Mtn and Asheville, NC
February 16th, 1:00pm to 3:30pm

Our local food culture is so diverse and delicious!  This trip will involve exploring two that focus on beverages both hot and cold!  At Dynamite we learn the process of roasting coffee, the story behind fair trade grown beans and what sets their beans apart from the rest. At Highland Brewing we will learn about he brewing process, do some tasting and get a tour of the facility.  Each tour will last approximately around 30 minutes and we will all have the opportunity to taste and shop at both places.  
$8.00 for transportation. Must have 5 people.

 

Darshana Hall Plantation, Statesville, NC

Wednesday, February  22nd, 8:30am-5:00pm
 
The trip will start with a tour with taking a step back in time touring the area's only true Southern Plantation that has existed for over 250 years.  Originally a cotton plantation of 12,000 acres has now been restored to depict what it was like to live in civil war era in the Piedmont of North Carolina.  
After our tour the group will visit historic downtown Statesville to have free time to shop and enjoy lunch.

 

$20.00  per person, includes tour  & transportation. Must have 5 people.

*Please note that you must pay trip feds in order to hold your spot.  Payment can be mailed, dropped off at the Lakeveiw Senior Center office, the lunch site or the Carver Community Center.  Refunds will only be issued if cancellation notice is received 48 hours prior to the trip. Thank you for your cooperation.

 

Hiking Schedule  
 
Febraury 7:  Royal Gorge Trail, Ridgecrest, NC:  This hike is on the shorter side but packs a lot of punch.  A steeper climb to the top rewards us with great views from an observation area.  Moderate/with some difficult. 1.5 hrs.      

 

February 14: Bearwallow Mtn, Gerton, NC

This mostly moderate trail will take us to a view of the Hickory Nut Gorge and beyond.  $3pp.  2 miles

 

February 21Recreation Park and Garden Greenway Trail.

Today will be a nice walk around our newest greenway and beyond.  We may end up strolling into the Montreat In the Oaks Property for some extra mileage. Easy, 2 miles.

 

February 28th: Point Lookout, Ridgecrest, NC:  This hike is on an old road turned Greenway that has excellent views of the mountains. Moderat 3.4 miles.  

 

ALL hikes leave at 10:00am from the Lakeview Center parking lot. 

 

** Must have three people for local hikes and five for hiking trips.

 

**Hunting season has begun.  Bright yellows and pinks are great colors to wear to be seen by the hunters.
