SHIP Minimize

SHIP: SENIOR HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM

 

Every thursday from 9;00 am until 11:30 there will be a SHIP volunteer here at the Lakeview Senior Center to support seniors with questions regarding Medicare and/or Medicade.  Help with such things but not limited to: Help paying for prescriptions, questions on billing, filling a claim, understainding your bill and any other issue that you may be having with Medicare/Medicade.

Advice is also available over the phone during this time period.  To set up and appoitment please call the Lakeview Center. 669-8610

Tai Chi for seniors

Tai Chi is a wonderful class for persons at all levels of physical fitness. It is often a class people take to improve balance, decrease pain, improve mental clarity and improve overall well-being. This class is great for beginners on up. 

 Location: Lakeview Clubhouse

 When: New class starts October 8th.  Runs for six weeks with two more classes possible if class would like. No class Thanksgiving week.

 Cost: $20 for six weeks.  


square dancing lessons

This is a beginning level square-dancing group that is designed for all levels. Please come and meet new people, get some light exercise for your body and brain and have fun!

 

Location: Lakeview Clubhouse (up-stairs)

 

Days: NEW!!! Every Tuesday from 1:00 to 2:30

 

Cost: $2 per class


Tuesday Hiking Group

Hikes will be guided and will take us to many of the local trails of the immediate area. This group is to meet at the new time:

Time: 10:00am.  Each hike last approximately 1.5 hours

Where: Lakeview Center

Please bring water, dress in layers and comfy shoes. All ability levels are welcome.Transportation is provided; call ahead of time during inclement weather.

Cost: This is a free program.


Senior Lunch Site

The Lakeview Senior Center and the Buncombe County Council on Aging host a lunch Monday through Friday from 10:00 to 2:00.  This is a great opportunity for seniors to get out and meet new folks in the area, enjoy fellowship and a great meal! These meals are available to seniors over 60.

Activities include: Chair Exercise onTuesday's and Thursday's,  various crafts through out the year and Bingo on Friday! *Please call if you have questions on a specific activity. 

*There is free transportation provided!!!

Low Impact Aerobics

The Lakeview Senior Center offers two low-impact aerobic classes that incorporate light weights, as well as stretching.  Classes are offered on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday each week at 8 AM upstairs and 9AM downstairs.  Donations are accepted.

Bridge

Bridge is played in the lower level of the Lakeview Senior Center on Tuesday & Thursday nights at 7 PM.  Tuesday is duplicate and Thursday is social.  New players are always welcome!

Canasta

Canasta is played in the lower level of the Lakeview Senior Center every Wednesday afternoon at 1 PM.  New players are always welcome!

Woodcarving

Woodcarving activities take place on Wednesdays at noon in the lower level of the Lakeview Senior Center. Feel free to drop in for a quick lesson. The group can share tools to teach.

Linus Quilters Club

The Linus Quilters Club meets every fourth Friday & Saturday of the month. On Friday, the group meets from 1:00 PM until 3:30 PM, and on Saturday, from 9:00 AM until noon. All level quilters are encouraged to drop in.  More experienced quilters will be on hand to help if needed.

Van Clan

Every season we will be visiting a variety of exciting locations. Monthly we take one local trip and will plan on two longer overnight trips one in the Spring and possibly one in the Fall.  Everyone is welcome, please sign up early because trips often fill up!!

 

November 6th: Trip to see the play "You Can't Take it With You" at Warren Wilson College.

November 19th: Southern Christmas Show in Charlotte, NC
